Beyonce urges fans to sign petition for justice over ‘senseless killing’ of George Floyd

Beyonce has urged her fans to sign a petition asking for justice after George Floyd’s horrific death at the hands of police in Minnesota earlier this week.

The 38-year-old megastar singer took to her Instagram on Friday night to share a short self-taken video with her 147million followers.

She captioned it: ‘If you want to demand more charges brought on all those involved in the death of George Floyd, click the link in my bio to sign the petition.’

The link in her bio was a Change.org petition  which already has over 6.3million followers with the goal of 7.5million and surely Beyonce’s post will help it reach and exceed the threshold.

In the short video Beyonce said: ‘We need justice for George Floyd. We all witnessed his murder in broad daylight. We’re broken and we’re disgusted and we cannot normalize this pain.

‘I am not only speaking to people of color if you are white, black, brown, or anything in between, I’m sure you feel hopeless by the racism going on in America right now.

Beyonce was not the only one to post about Floyd on Friday night, as Drake also addressed the matter on the same social media.

He posted the poem Affirmation by social activist and New York native Assata Shakur with the caption: ‘ Rest in heaven George Floyd [rose emoji]’

This came after Cardi B has taken a different approach in showing her support for rioters.

The rapper said in an Instagram clip that while the violent protests ‘scare’ her and she hopes nobody gets hurt, she’s glad that people’s voices will finally be heard.

She also called for people to vote in local and national elections to make sure action is taken against police brutality.

Cardi opened her video saying, ‘Seeing people looting and going extremely outraged, it makes me feel like, “Yes! Finally! Finally motherf***ers is gonna hear us now. Yeah!”

‘And as much as people is so against it, at this point I feel like I’m not against it,’ she added.

A Minneapolis policeman accused of killing Floyd, an unarmed African-American man, by kneeling on his neck, was taken into custody Friday and charged with third-degree murder, officials said.

In the horrifying video footage, Floyd is seen saying that he can not breathe. Eventually he went silent and limp, and he was later declared dead.

Protests swelled after federal authorities said Thursday that they were making the case a top priority but announced no arrests at that time.

The death of the 46-year-old Floyd has sparked days of sometimes violent demonstrations in Minneapolis and other US cities over police brutality against African-Americans.

Cardi said in her video that she’s getting tired of speaking out about police brutality as it’s happened so many times but it making headlines now because of social media.

‘It’s really frustrating… police brutality been going on even way before I was born, but it has been more visual ever since social media started getting popping,

‘I feel like I have done videos against police brutality, I feel like this is like my seventh time. I feel I’ve been doing police brutality videos ever since my teeth been f***ed up. And the only s**t that changed has been my f***ing teeth.’

The Hustlers star said people are resorting to violence because people are tired of peaceful protests. She then encouraged people to vote in national and local elections, because those elected officials are the ones who ‘have the power to prosecute these cops when they do f***ed s**t like this.’

Singer Lizzo also gave her reaction to the shocking killing, posting an emotional video about it on Friday.
