Tinder launches feature allowing singletons to add facts about themselves to their profiles

Tinder prompts users to add question-and answer cards to their profiles that reveal details about their pets, favourite songs and hobbies – as usage of dating app surges during lockdown

  • Tinder has launched Prompts, which add question-and-answer cards to profiles
  • They will be available from today with the queries regularly updated
  • It comes as the dating app reports a 12 per cent surge in usage during lockdown

Tinder has launched a new feature allowing singletons to add question-and-answer cards to their profile.

The feature, called Prompts, shows a range of questions on subjects including pets, favourite songs and past-times on a user’s profile, with their answer typed below.

These cards will then appear on the app after a potential suitor has swiped through all the profile pictures added.

It comes as the dating site sees 12 per cent more daily conversations than usual on the app during March, as Britons remain at home during lockdown.

Tinder said it had launched the feature to help users write their profile, which they said can be a ‘nerve-wracking’ experience.

‘(Prompts) are a quick way to share bite-sized glimpses into your personality that can also be great conversation starters,’ the app said.

Questions available will be updated regularly. Those currently available include, ‘I’m talking to my pet about…’ and ‘The one thing I won’t take for granted again…’.

They can be accessed through pressing the profile icon in the top right of the app and tapping on add media.

The lockdown has seen Tinder set new records with more than three billion swipes being reported globally on Sunday March 29, the highest number in its history.

The app has also started encouraging users with new matches to keep their relationships digital for now, until the pandemic comes under control.

It recommends adhering to the latest recommendations – which in the UK remain stay at home as much as possible. Those wishing to meet others can meet one other friend or family member providing they stay six-foot (two metres) apart at all times.

On May 6, Tinder announced in the US that it is planning to add a video-chat feature by the end of June.

Recent research by Bumble, which says it puts ‘women first’, has estimated up to 52 per cent of UK users will seek a steady partner after social distancing ends.

The survey, published this week, also suggests 55 per cent of users will seek more meaningful relationships in the post-coronavirus world.

‘Whether it’s using Bumble for the first time to video date or planning your first meet post-lockdown, we’re seeing that people are slowing down and looking for more meaningful connections, said the app’s associate director of marketing, Naomi Walkland.

‘Over the past two months, we’ve seen a big increase in video calls and we’ve recently launched in-app audio notes and a virtual dating badge that lets potential matches know you’re open to a video chat.

‘This is part of our continued efforts to help people safely navigate the new world of virtual dating.’
