Almost 30 million people have watched BBC series Normal People. 

And Daisy Edgar-Jones, revealed it’s been ‘strange’ for her to experience her new level of fame while at home during lockdown. 

The 22-year-old, who plays Marianne Sheridan, spoke to Dermot O’Leary on his Radio 2 show about the success of the series and admitted it’s hard to process it all.

She said of Normal People’s success: ‘It has been strange experiencing it all from my bedroom. 

‘I haven’t been able to really kind of process the fact that I can see articles online talking about me, it feels a bit like a simulated video game on my phone. It’s very surreal.’ 

Normal People is a TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s book and stars Daisy and Paul Mescal, 24, (Connell Waldron) who play teen lovers.

They come from two different sides of the tracks and the series follows the difficulties they face.

On Monday, Paul wished Daisy a happy birthday as she turned 22. 

He shared behind the scenes snaps from the show in his post to Daisy.

Alongside the photos, he wrote: ‘ Happy birthday to this LEGEND! @daisyedgarjones you are one of a kind. Have the best day ever ❤️’.

Daisy thanked her co-star and wrote back: ‘THANK YOU PAULIO’. 

Paul posted several black and white snaps in the post including one of his co-star sitting on a doorstep laughing.

In another shot, the actress can be seen sitting in a makeup chair as she prepares to film a scene for the critically acclaimed series.

Another photo showed the pair sat at a table laughing together in between takes while Paul also posted a snap of them discussing the show at a press conference.
