A clever parent has created an extra room for her youngest child after struggling to accommodate her family-of-four in her two-bedroom home.

Nicola Jordan, from Manchester, shares a two-up, two-down home with her husband, their seven-year-old son and three-year-old daughter Emily, and was keen to give the little girl – who currently sleeps in their bedroom – her own space.

With the help of their grandparents – with one set lending their DIY skills and the other paying for materials – they decided to convert the large wardrobe in their main bedroom into a third room for the little girl, with astounding results.

Sharing the before and after pictures to Facebook group DIY On A Budget, the post racked up hundreds of likes and comments from impressed followers.

Sharing her transformation online, Nicola explained that their little boy has his own room, while they’ve been sharing with a room with their daughter since she was born.

She wrote: ‘We have a seven-year-old and three-year-old in a two-up two-down.

‘Our three-year-old girl has been in with with us since birth and just before the lockdown I decided we had to try and get her her own space.

‘We had a huge cupboard in our room which was of no use. So grandparents to the rescue, one set built and designed it, whilst the other set paid for materials (we are very lucky).

‘Here’s the before and after and we even gained a little hallway between our rooms. PS ours is still a good size room but we haven’t decorated it yet.’

Making the most of the space, the room contains a high shelving unit, and a single bunk bed, with a secret play area underneath it.

The extra bedroom even gets light from Nicola’s master, and has a small open slot at the top of the partition wall connecting to the little boy’s room.

One Facebook follower wrote: ‘Oh my golly wow that’s brilliant so cosy and what a excellent use of space.’

Meanwhile another added: ‘This is amazing,’ and another agreed, writing: ‘That’s well cool.’
