Lorde sends fans into a frenzy as she teases the release of a new album

‘I’m going back to the studio’: Lorde sends fans into a frenzy as she teases the release of new music – after her third album was delayed following the death of her dog Pearl

The death of her beloved pet dog Pearl in October slowed down the roll-out of her forthcoming third album.

But on Wednesday, Lorde, real name Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, sent fans into a frenzy when she teased the release of the long-awaited album.

In a newsletter sent to her fans, the 23-year-old singer–songwriter said that although she’s still grieving, she has returned to the studio.

‘I started going back to the studio in December just for something to do, and to my surprise, good things came out. Happy, playful things,’ she wrote.

‘I felt my melodic muscles flexing and strengthening.’

She revealed that she’s ‘still working away’ with American singer Jack Antonoff over FaceTime, but said the music ‘will take a little longer’.

‘The greatest treat I can give you is work that will last ten, twenty, thirty years. And that kind of work takes time,’ Lorde, whose last album Melodrama was released in 2017, said.

In November, Lorde revealed in an emotional newsletter that the death of her dog Pearl had slowed down the roll-out of her forthcoming third album.

The singer–songwriter credited her late companion with helping to inspire some of the ideas in her new music.

‘Pearl came into my life in 2018, and almost immediately changed everything for me,’ she wrote.

‘As anyone who has had the pleasure of raising a dog can understand, my life grew exponentially. Pearl brought an immeasurable amount of joy and purpose into my world.’
