John Legend takes a dive with Olympic hopefuls as he celebrates his progression from novice to ‘Olympic-level artistic swimmer’

John Legend showed off his aquatic skills in an Instagram stories post on Tuesday as he practiced diving with a pair of Olympic hopefuls, Anita Alvarez and Lindy Schroeder.

The 41-year-old vocalist appeared in a clip which was scored to Vangelis’s theme from the 1981 movie Chariots of Fire.

In it, both of the Olympians, clad in one-piece bathing suits, launched perfect dives, followed by the suave singer hoisting himself into the pool.

‘I was never afraid to go in the pool, but I was afraid to go in the deep end,’ he said. ‘I’m happy that I’m able to live with less fear and be able to swim with my kids. It just opens up a lot more opportunities.

‘I just want to be comfortable in any water settings. So if we’re out on a boat on the ocean, if we’re in a pool, no matter where we are.’

He said his daughter Luna was ‘the one who got me excited about doing it, because we started giving her lessons,’ adding, ‘Even Miles is taking lessons now. He started lessons before me, and we have the same teacher.’

Locate said in an April 2019 Instagram post: ‘Not a bad way to start my week. Swimming with [Legend] giving him some swim tips and getting him ready for 2020 Olympics haha!’
