American Married At First Sight stars trash the ‘fake’ Australian version

Some of the biggest stars from the American Married At First Sight franchise have slammed the Australian version of the series ahead of its US premiere.

AJ Vollmoeller and Jamie Otis both trashed the Aussie edition of the dating show on Instagram, calling it ‘scripted’ and claiming that it’s not genuine like the American series.

‘Ewwwww,’ wrote AJ. ‘This needs to be kept on the other side of the world. It’s a very fake version of MAFS, nothing genuine about it. Scripted!’

‘I heard the Australian version is bonkers,’ added Jamie.

‘Like couples switch partners, etc. I’m glad we keep it more simple and real here in America,’ she continued.

‘And our couples – well, *most* of our couples – are married because they genuinely want true love/marriage. But I def wanna watch this version because I’ve heard it’s absolutely nutty.’

Jamie and AJ are two of the biggest stars from the American Married At First Sight franchise and have both appeared in spin-offs since their original stints on the show.

AJ’s wife Stephanie also threw some serious shade at the Australian MAFS cast on Instagram after a fan commented about the cast’s ‘balloon Botox faces screaming at each other’.

Stephanie responded with three laughing face emojis, indicating that she agreed with the comment.

The most recent season of Australia’s Married At First Sight is set to air in America on May 27.

And while the series has been a ratings blockbuster at home, American viewers have been threatening to boycott the Aussie version of the series because it’s ‘too trashy’.

After a promotional trailer for the season was released, hundreds of American MAFS fans flooded social media with negative comments about the show.

‘The previews for this season look worse than Jersey Shore!’ wrote one.

‘The trailers for Australia look awful. Looks like one of those Real Housewives shows with everybody fighting. I’ll pass,’ said another.

Dozens of viewers remarked that the season looked ‘fake and scripted’, with many pointing out that it lacked the authenticity of the American version.

‘No thanks. The American show has lost it’s sincerity and focus over the past couple of seasons. This looks worse. Too much scripted drama. Pass,’ wrote one.

‘I watched the whole show mostly through Facebook clips and it was awful. All couples were mismatched, so much scripting, complaints after the show ended. But if you’re into trash TV drama, go for it,’ commented another.

‘I saw the previews for this show and it just looks like a lot of trash and drama. Not interested.’

Married At First Sight US is currently the highest rated show on America’s Lifetime network, spawning six spin-off shows and pulling in millions of viewers each week.

Unlike the Australian counterpart, the MAFS US weddings are legally binding.

The series doesn’t contain any dramatic dinner parties and commitment ceremonies, and each season the participants are based in the same city to ensure that distance won’t be an issue in their marriage.

The show’s relationship experts put more effort into matching participants correctly, and even personally visit their homes to get a sense of their personality and lifestyle before matching them with a partner.

Last month, Lifetime announced that Married At First Sight Australia would premiere on their network on May 27.

When the season airs, American viewers will be subjected to outrageous drama including multiple cheating scandals and screaming fights between the couples.

They’ll also see the infamous toothbrush scandal, in which David Cannon used his ‘wife’ Hayley Vernon’s toothbrush to scrub faeces off the toilet bowl.
