Olivia Wilde confirms Dakota Johnson will star in her second directorial effort Don’t Worry, Darling

Emmy-winning producer Olivia Wilde officially confirmed on Wednesday that she had cast Dakota Johnson to play a mystery role in Don’t Worry, Darling.

The 36-year-old filmmaker’s follow-up to her hit 2019 directorial debut, Booksmart, is centered on an isolated, utopian community in the California desert.

‘I think therefore I stan Dakota!’ Olivia – who boasts 5.1M Instagram/Twitter followers – gushed.

According to THR, New Line Cinemas ‘hopes to begin filming Darling as soon as coronavirus lockdown restrictions lift and it’s safe to do so.’

Wilde’s fifties-set psychological thriller reunites the 30-year-old Independent Spirit Award winner with her Peanut Butter Falcon leading man, Shia LaBeouf. 

‘I think Shia might be the greatest actor of my generation,’ Dakota told Marie Claire on Tuesday, ‘which I wouldn’t say to his face.’

Don’t Worry, Darling also stars Chris Pine and Florence Pugh, who heads up the movie as a ‘housewife uncovering a disturbing truth about her seemingly perfect life.’

The 24-year-old Oscar nominee wrote on April 24 that she’s read the script ’17K times’ and she ‘can’t wait to join’ her ‘idol Olivia’ and the ‘f***ing incredible cast.’

But first, audiences can catch Johnson as an aspiring music producer called Maggie in Nisha Ganatra’s comedy The High Note, which starts streaming VOD on May 29.

‘Maggie is so emotional and so open, but I didn’t want her to get totally blown over by the wind,’ the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson explained to Marie Claire.

‘I think, especially for women, it’s such a hustle all the time. It’s a fight every day. Maggie’s vulnerable, but it never stops her from going for the thing that is the most important to her.’
