MasterChef judge Andy Allen reveals what he likes to cook for his fiancée Alex Davey in his downtime

He won the fourth season of MasterChef in 2012 before returning this year as a judge.

And on Wednesday, Andy Allen, 32, revealed how he has been spending his extra time at home while self-isolating during the coronavirus outbreak.

‘I’m baking sourdough bread because I got a great recipe from Jock Zonfrillo,’ he told PerthNow.

While he admits he doesn’t have a heap of free time because he’s still filming the Channel 10 hit show, when he’s home cooking remains his passion.

The newly engaged chef also enjoys whipping up hearty curries in his downtime to share with his fiancée Alex Davey.

Andy went on to explain he’s even been experimenting with unusually flavoured pickles – his latest batch being pickled habanero and pineapples.

Andy officially confirmed his engagement to Alex this week in an interview with TV Week magazine.

The TV star revealed he proposed to the 29-year-old beauty during a romantic getaway in New Zealand earlier this year before borders were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Andy, who has been dating Alex for four years, said he was incredibly nervous about the proposal from the moment they flew out of Melbourne Airport.

‘I was so scared about the ring going off in the scanner at the airport and having to drop down on one knee and propose in front of the security guards,’ he recalled.

When it finally did come time to drop to one knee, things didn’t exactly pan out the way he hoped.

Andy said he wanted to find the most romantic spot he could on a ‘nice secluded spot on the beach’, but was forced to change plans when they arrived at a crowded stretch of sand.

After finally finding a quiet spot in a nearby headland, Andy asked for Alex’s hand in marriage.

‘She was so shocked, she basically collapsed on my shoulder,’ he recalled. ‘I pretty much had to ask her if it was a “yes”. She was very shocked,’ he said.
