The Bachelor: Listen To Your Heart judges boot Julia Rae and Brandon Mills after they leave partners

Julia Rae and Brandon Mills were booted off The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart on Monday after two-timing their partners and failing to elicit praise for their music.

Not only did their duet fail to convince the judges they had chemistry, but their fledgling romance flamed out as soon as it formed, ruining their chances of winning the show.

It seemed Brandon, 34, was not totally sold on Julia, 27, despite the fact that both of them had abandoned their partners for each other after being sent on a date together.

And by the show’s end, both they and their former partners had been sent home.

Julia, a patient care advocate from Philadelphia, always had been interested in Brandon, a security officer from Louisville, Kentucky, but he’d chosen Savannah McKinley.

When show host Chris Harrison, 48, decided to mix up the couples and send singers on dates with people who weren’t their partners, Julia was paired with Brandon.

‘The next time I see you, I hope to see really strong committed couples only sitting in this room,’ said Chris, adding that the dates were meant to solidify relationships.

None of it sat well with Julia’s rose ceremony partner, Sheridan Reed, a 27-year-old musician from Austin, Texas, who knew that she really wanted to be with Brandon.

‘I do feel so, so good about what we have,’ Julia told him before her date. ‘I don’t imagine this changing anything. I feel like it’ll be good. This will just bring this extra, added clarity.’

‘I feel anxious, and I don’t know what’s going to happen,’ Sheridan said in a confessional. ‘Normally the girl goes for the d***, not the nice guy.’

As Sheridan struggled, several other of his housemates went on dates with people they weren’t partnered with, but they remained friendly throughout.

Chris helped her spy on her man Matt Ranaudo, a 32-year-old singer-songwriter from Milford, Connecticut, to make sure he wasn’t pursuing New York City singer Natascha Bessez, 33.

Jamie Gabrielle, a 21-year-old hostess from Nashville, went out with former flame Ryan Neal, a 28-year-old ophthalmic technician from Dearborn Heights, Michigan, for a peaceful spa day.

But Julia and Brandon were sent to The Roxy Theatre, a nightclub in Los Angeles, where they were tasked with writing a song with musician Joel Crouse, then performing it onstage.

By the time they finished singing, Julia had completely changed her tune about Brandon.

‘We don’t just have chemistry in the romantic sense, we have chemistry in the musical sense as well,’ she said before they kissed. ‘I want to end up with Brandon.’

When they got home, Brandon hugged her and told her that they both had some ‘conversations they had to have,’ promising Julia ‘we’ll link up soon.’

Julia walked into the house and grabbed Sheridan for a chat, telling him in a quiet room that she was ‘sorry… I just was able to figure out what I needed to know.’

‘What’d you need to know? What’d you figure out?’ Sheridan pressed, as Julia asked why he was being so ‘mean.’

‘This is just so hard; I don’t know what to do,’ she wailed. ‘I just feel like I don’t think I can do this with you.’

‘Then I wish you the best with Brandon,’ Sheridan said, leaving.

Julia glared at him, saying, ‘You’re seriously just going to walk away after that?’

Brandon said he’d done everything he could, and laughed when she said she cared about him.

‘It’s honestly just hard to hear anything from you right now,’ he said, then softened, adding: ‘I’m laughing so that I don’t cry.’

Sheridan left immediately, and in the car revealed that he thought Julia had been with a lot of bad guys, ‘and I was trying to be the one to break that cycle.’

Brandon then told his partner, Savannah McKinley, a 25-year-old yoga instructor from Nashville, that he had feelings for Julia.

He tried to shift the blame to Savannah a little, saying, ‘I feel like you’re like 95 percent in this with me, but there’s a five percent that’s mysterious that scares the s*** out of me.’

‘How am I supposed to feel right now?’ Savannah retorted, to which Brandon coldly replied, ‘I don’t know. How do you want to feel?’

‘I want to feel chosen, and I don’t,’ Savannah explained.

‘I feel like you have somewhat of an attitude or an air about you that I’m not trying to fight you,’ Brandon returned. ‘We have a lot of work to do on communication.’

‘Are WE doing anything, or are you and Julia doing something?’ Savannah asked. ‘At the end of the day Brandon, I don’t need you to be confused. I’m done.’

‘Ok,’ Brandon said. ‘So I ask you to open up and you’re still conservative, and I have grace and patience for that…’

‘I’m not going to be a choice, Brandon,’ Savannah said. ‘I deserve so much more than that.’

‘You deserve everything that you want sweetie, and I hope that you get it,’ Brandon sniped.

After Savannah stormed off, he went after her, asking, ‘What do I need to do to fix this?’

‘Nothing,’ she emphasized, saying he should have chosen her to start with.

‘My choice is you,’ Brandon said, in an about face.

As Savannah asked him about the status of his relationship with Julia, Brandon condescendingly rejoined, ‘Can we talk like adults? I would love that. I’m here for you. I came to find you because I care about you. I’m willing to make a decision now to work this out with you.’

Savannah told him she didn’t trust him and she was over it, not wanting to be a second choice.

Brandon then went to Julia and said, ‘I’m optimistic I’m choosing to do this well and right with you, and I’m glad we’re going to move forward together.’

With the drama temporarily behind them, all of the couples got their song assignments for the week’s duets and learned the would be performing at The Novo in Los Angeles.

As they rehearsed their songs, Natascha asked Brandon whether he would have gone after Savannah if she would have agreed to try with him, and he whispered ‘yes.’

Julia, sitting next to him, had been prompted by Natascha to place her hands over her ears.

Later, at The Novo, Natascha told Julia what Brandon said, and Julia didn’t believe it.

‘Natascha doesn’t care about anyone else besides herself,’ she said in a confessional. ‘I think it’s dirty that she did this to another performer right before a performance.’

When Julia confronted Brandon about it, he said, ‘I wanted to see what Savannah’s position was, and we didn’t see eye-to-eye. So that’s the end of it. That’s the most important part.’

A disconcerted Julia headed to the Novo stage, where the week’s judges included former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay, 35, and her husband Bryan Abasolo, 45, singer-songwriter Andy Grammer, 36, and singer Toni Braxton, 52.

Rudi and Matt soared together on a sexy version of Chris Stapleton’s Tennessee Whiskey, and Rachel said the way they interacted was ‘beautiful,’ though Toni craved more romantic tension.

Jamie and her partner Trevor Holmes, a 29-year-old social media marketer from Thousand Oaks, California, sang Meghan Trainor’s Like I’m Gonna Lose You, to mixed reviews.

Chris and his partner Bri Stauss, a 28-year-old waitress from Provo, Utah, performed Lover by Taylor Swift.

Their connection had Toni saying, ‘That’s what I’m talking about… I was feeling it! It was uncomfortable, but it was good.’

Bri told the judges that when she hugged Chris, she said, ‘I love you,’ for the first time, to which Chris replied, ‘I didn’t hear it, or else I would have said ‘I love you,’ too.’

Julia and Brandon then performed a duet to Pat Benatar’s We Belong, and it fell flat.

‘I don’t think they have any chemistry,’ Rachel whispered to her husband, before telling the couple that it felt like ‘a karaoke performance.’

‘I thought they were having a fight,’ Toni cracked.

Ryan and Natascha killed it on You Are the Best Thing, by Ray Lamontagne, finishing the song with a dip and earning praise from Toni, who said they ‘engaged the entire audience.’

‘It was fun, it was flirty, it was sexy!’ said Rachel, as Julia stewed from the wings.

Brandon, a former military scout sniper, said that the past 72 hours had been his most traumatic ‘since combat.’

‘I’m certainly wondering why Brandon treated the performance the way he did,’ she reflected. ‘And then to have to deal with what Natasha did today. I just didn’t deserve the way I’ve been treated.’

‘I told Brandon to check in with me and he didn’t. Truth be told, he treated it like a solo performance. I wish I could go back and choose Sheridan,’ Julia said.
