Chris Hemsworth still has insecurities about acting and recalls how he paid off his parents’ home

Chris Hemsworth has confessed he still has insecurities about acting, despite carving out a lucrative career as a Hollywood leading man.

In an interview with GQ Australia for the magazine’s May/June issue, the 36-year-old Thor star admitted he still worries his success could all disappear.

‘Once you are on that train, not a day goes by where you don’t think it’s going to be taken away, all of a sudden,’ he told the publication, as reported by The Daily Telegraph.

He added: ‘You still have this fear and anxiety programmed in you that it’s all going to slip away.’

But Chris acknowledged that his status as a Hollywood A-lister had allowed him to pay off his parents’ home.

‘Once I had paid off my parents’ house and taken care of my family, I had a moment where I thought: “What now? What’s driving this?”‘ he admitted.

In an interview with Australian Men’s Health in January 2019, the hunky actor admitted he only kept pursuing acting so he could pay off his parents’ mortgage.

‘One of the first things I wanted to do when I got any money was pay my parents’ house off. I’d asked Dad once when he thought he’d pay it off and he said, “Honestly, probably never,”‘ Chris told Men’s Health at the time.

‘I was like, “Do this for the house, think of reasons other than yourself.”‘

Speaking to GQ, Chris said he’d had ‘an obsessive approach’ to pursuing a career in Hollywood, knowing he had ‘a one-in-a-million chance’ of actually making it.

But despite landing a place among Hollywood’s A-list, Chris confessed international fame wasn’t everything he expected it to be.

The father of daughter India, seven, and twin sons Tristan and Sasha, both six, with his wife of 10 years, Elsa Pataky, added that the older his children get, the ‘harder’ he finds it to be away from them for work.

‘For a little while you don’t think the kids notice and then you realise they do,’ he explained to GQ.

He said that he’s torn between wanting to make movies that he’s ‘proud of’ and being at home with his family, confessing he worries that he’ll look back and realise he’s ‘missed it all’.

‘You can fall into a false sense of self-importance on a film set, where you feel you’re special, so it’s good to remind yourself that it’s not that case. And kids certainly drive that home,’ he added.
