Alexa Chung shares throwback Met Gala snap with Harry Styles

She is a muse to many fashion designers because of her distinctive personal style, thus giving her a coveted invite to Anna Wintour’s Met Gala. 

And Alexa Chung was in reflective mood on Monday as this year’s glamorous ceremony was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

The model, 36, took to Instagram to share a throwback snap of herself in a basketball net posing with Harry Styles, 26, revealing she stayed up partying all night before having to film for her show Next In Fashion in LA the next day. 

Sharing the photo taken by actor Justin Theroux, Alexa wrote: ‘Straight from the afterparty last year I took a 6am flight from New York directly to the Next In Fashion set in LA. So if I look a bit wobbly in the Military episode now you know why.’ 

Alexa arrived for the 2019 Met Gala in the tiniest of minidresses and matching accessories, as she interpreted the camp theme as ‘bad taste’ and showing so much leg to such an event was a fashion faux pas.

She told Vogue at the time: ‘I wanted to consider how other people will realise the theme of camp and ensure we, as the Alexachung brand, are different in our approach.

‘Having every accessory matching felt really wrong and therefore so right.’

Last month, Alexa took to Instagram to post a throwback snap taken behind-the-scenes of the MET Gala 2011.

The photo saw the likes of Yoko Ono, Salma Hayek and Stella McCartney fawning over Rihanna as they admired her dress.

The black sleek number was a Stella McCartney/Alexander McQueen and was designed for that year’s theme: Savage Beauty.

Rihanna famously wore her long mane in a russet plait in the sparkling, lacy number which teased her torso with a split that ran the height of the dress. 

In the snap, the other ladies admire Rihanna as they wait backstage.

Alexa captioned the image: ‘Ancient maybe even Blackberry photo of a Met Gala bathroom scene. Yoko, Rihanna, Stella, Salma, Lauren. Solid line up.’  

This comes after Alexa revealed that she once offered to pay the Beckhams to talk to her at a party, and pretended she was a waitress to get close to Leonardo DiCaprio.

The model suffered the humiliation at a dinner thrown by Vogue editor Anna Wintour. 

‘Everyone was there in couples,’ she recalled. ‘They were really famous and the only ones I could think to go over to were David and Victoria Beckham.

‘I said, “I know you have a lot of money but I’ll pay you anything to talk to me right now.” And they were really nice.’

Of her toe-curling encounter with Leo, Alexa admitted: ‘He thought I was the waitress, so I got him drinks and I pretended I was.’
