MasterChef star Melissa Leong reveals how she deals with online critics after she was caught out making unflattering remarks about the series

She once slammed the Channel 10 cooking series which recently made her a star.

And now that the tables have turned on MasterChef judge Melissa Leong, the 40-year-old chef often has to deal with online critics of the popular show. 

Speaking to TV Week magazine on Monday, Melissa said it was important to remember that no-one is ‘universally’ loved.

‘When you can accept that, you can just focus on being the best version of yourself,’ she told the publication.  

She went on say her strategy for dealing with publicity was just to focus on herself. 

‘My strategy for being in this very public space is just to focus on what I do well,’ she said. 

‘Be grateful for the positive aspects of what happens and just own who I am.’

Melissa went on to say that despite her confidence, she has trouble being ‘comfortable’ in her own skin.  

The beauty has had a controversial relationship with the MasterChef brand, writing less than flattering commentary about the show in the past. 

‘I wasn’t a die-hard MasterChef fan,’ she admitted to TV Week magazine last month. 

‘But I wasn’t hired to be a fan. I’ve enjoyed the episodes I’ve watched, and I’ve had many friends on the show, but I wasn’t a devotee.’

In a series of unearthed tweets dating back to 2011 and 2012, the newly appointed judge made scathing comments about the show she now works for.

‘What happens when you go on MasterChef & then open a restaurant? Apparently not much. Back to 2nd hand car sales then…’ she wrote back in 2012.

And responding to a Tweet in 2011, Melissa said the worst thing an amateur could do is appear on the long-running show.   

Even as recently as July, Melissa claimed she had no intention of replacing any of the previous judges on the hit cooking show.

‘Let me put it on record: I don’t want to be the next Matt Preston. I don’t want to be the next anyone, for that matter. I want to be the first ME,’ she wrote on Instagram.
