Former Sky Sports presenter Simon Thomas puts listed four-bedroom riverside home on the market

Former Sky Sports host Simon Thomas has put the sprawling riverside home he shared with his late wife Gemma on the market for £895,000.

The presenter, 47, is selling the estate in Caversham, Reading where he lived with his wife and their son Ethan, 10, until her death in November 2017.

The pair tied the knot in 2005 and were married for 12 years when she suddenly passed away three days after she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

The four-bedroom, semi-detached home they shared is situated adjacent to the River Thames, with scenic views of the river over three floors.

It makes up a substantial wing of an impressive Grade II listed Georgian farmhouse.

The home features a sprawling 180ft by 90ft private garden, with a large terrace situated to the side enclosed by an idyllic picket fence.

The three-bathroom property also includes a private driveway accessed by a five-bar gate, alongside a garage with storage space in a pitched roof.

Inside, it features a spacious kitchen and dining area alongside a living area complete with a brick fireplace, long burner and French doors which open up onto the garden.

The stunning home, which was placed on the market on March 6 for £895,000, is the home Mr Thomas shared with his late wife Gemma until sudden death in 2017 from a rare form of cancer.

Ms Thomas, 40, sadly passed away just three days after she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia – and only weeks after she became ill.

The former Blue Peter presenter has previously described how he and Gemma first set eyes on the home in 2011, when the pair lived in a two-bedroom flat in South West London with their then two-year-old son.

They lived in the home together for six years, before Gemma sadly passed away and ‘for those first few months, it felt like the place was my enemy,’ Mr Thomas said.

Speaking to the Home Page, he added: ‘Even now, there are fluctuating emotions with it. There are some days when it’s nice to be back here again, but because so much has changed, more often than not I come back feeling it’s not really “home” anymore.’

He added his most vivid memories of his late wife in the home were in the kitchen – one of her favourite rooms – which the pair had renovated shortly after moving in.

‘She was an amazing cook and that was really her space. She loved being in there and it was everything she wanted,’ he added.

The presenter has recently shared photographs of his new partner, Derrina Jebb, 29, who he has credited for making his young son ‘feel like he has a family’ again.

In an image posted to Instagram last week captioned ‘the two I love the most’, Ms Jebb was seen sitting with his son outside as they got some fresh air during the UK’s nationwide lockdown.

Mr Thomas, 47, who struck up a relationship with Ms Jebb in 2018 after meeting through his church, has previously praised her for forming a ‘seamless bond’ with Ethan.

He added that he and his son are now ‘light years away from the dark place they were in’ in an interview with Red Magazine earlier this year.

‘Ethan and I will always remember Gemma, but I want to chase life down again because it is there to be embraced,’ the former Sky Sports presenter said.

‘Ethan will grow up without a mum and this is a source of ongoing pain, but Derrina has become everything but to him.

‘We see each other at weekends and when I ask Ethan why he likes spending time with her, he says “I feel like a family.”

‘She has never tried to be his mother, but she’s another person he can talk to and they’ve formed a seamless bond.’

He added: ‘Looking back, that dark place we were in feels like light years away now.’
