‘I feel in the prime of my life’: Tamzin Outhwaite reveals she is unfazed by her upcoming 50th birthday as she breaks down taboos about menopause

Tamzin Outhwaite has revealed that she feels in the prime of her life despite approaching a milestone birthday.

And the former EastEnders star, 49, has showed no sign of slowing down after singing up to a 12-part series aimed at breaking down the taboos about menopause.

She told the Mirror: ‘The label put on women is that when you get to your late 40s, early 50s, you are less visible, less important…

‘I used to think 50 meant I’d be knitting in a rocking chair, but in reality I’m a better human, a stronger person, and actually more comfortable in my own skin.

‘What other people expect is the opposite of what’s really happening. I feel in the prime of my life. Age is far less relevant.’

The mother-of-two began her role in Eastenders in 1998 as Mel Healy. She took a brief hiatus from the role before eventually being killed off last year in a car crash.

But Tamzin has not let that put a stop to her on-screen exploits as she has stepped into the spotlight once again in a YouTube series called Dun Breedin’.

The 12-part show was written by Scottish actress Julie Graham and features and also features Angela Griffin, Denise Welch, Alison Newman and Tracy Ann Oberman.

The cast filmed their segments from their homes as they play a group of friends who are going through the menopause together.

Tamzin said she got involved with the project to encourage women to talk about their experiences and stop it being such a taboo subject.

The TV star’s candid interview came after she explained fears that a number of romantic relationships may not go the distance as couples isolate together amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Tazmin – who went into isolation with Tom on March 16 after the couple displayed symptoms – believes the crisis will prove to be a testing time for couples as they spend months locked in together.

She told The Mirror: ‘You do wonder when people come out of lockdown how many people will go, ‘That’s not for me.’ Or if others will propose and think, ‘If I can do that, I know I can be with you forever.”

However, when asked by the publication if she believed her own partner of two years had any plans to pop the big question, the blonde laughed as she responded: ‘I am not talking about that.’

Elsewhere in the interview, Tamzin insisted she’s far from bothered by the 21-year age gap between herself and her personal trainer beau, who she she began dating after meeting him in a yoga studio.

‘It’s not an issue,’ she said. ‘Once other people get over it, it’s not an issue for them. It’s something if it works, if the energy of it works, your connection works then nothing else really matters.’

Tamzin has two daughters, Florence, 11, and Marnie Mae, seven, with her ex-husband, Lucifer star Tom Ellis, 41.

The former couple were married from 2006 to 2014.
