‘My dad’s dead and my mum doesn’t like me’: Kyle Sandilands leaves Hailee Steinfeld STUNNED as he rambles about his late father and being homeless during a car-crash interview
Kyle Sandilands sounds like he needs a hug.
During an interview with actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld on Thursday, the 48-year-old shock jock began rambling about his unhappy life.
The Kyle and Jackie O Show segment went off the rails as he spoke about gaining weight in quarantine, the death up his father and his years living on the streets as a teenager – and poor Hailee didn’t quite know how to respond.

Things became particularly weird when Kyle asked Hailee, who was speaking via Zoom from her home in California, about her her songwriting process.
The Pitch Perfect star said she asks her parents for feedback because she goes to them ‘for just about anything and everything’.
‘I wish I could do that but my dad’s dead and my mum doesn’t like me,’ Kyle said.

Longtime listeners would, of course, know that Kyle often moans about his parents, but Hailee was left speechless and didn’t know what to say.
‘Oh. Well, I’m sad to hear that,’ Hailee said after a long pause.
‘Well, my parents kicked me out when I was 15 and I think they were like, “Oh he was a mistake”. They threw me in the street, I was homeless for a year so,’ Kyle added.
Awkward! After interrogating Hailee what she thought about Chris Hemsworth’s body and complaining about weight gain in quarantine, Kyle finally asked the Pitch Perfect star about her songwriting process and who she trusts for feedback
‘I’ve just struggled through life and you know, no wonder people think, “Oh, he’s a bit rough around the edges. He swears and he carries on and says inappropriate things.” But hey, I’m alive! That’s the main thing, right?’
‘You’re alive,’ Hailee replied, sounding completely baffled.
Kyle then told Hailee he was jealous of her and his co-host, Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, because they both have supportive parents.
He said he often wondered what it would be like to have a loving mother and father, to which Hailee asked: ‘Are you asking me?’
‘No, I’m just telling you how I feel,’ Kyle said.
