Kate Middleton has a ‘wicked sense of humour’, reveals duchess’ hairdresser

Kate Middleton has a ‘wicked sense of humour’ without any ‘airs and graces’ while Prince William is ‘very nice’, according to the hairdresser who styled the duchess’ locks for her wedding reception.

As the Duke, 37, and Duchess of Cambridge, 38, celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary yesterday, Richard Ward recalled the special occasion to People.

The hairstylist, who blow dries Kate’s hair at his Chelsea Salon and styled her locks for the royal wedding reception in April 2011, said you can have ‘a good joke’ with the mother-of-three.

Richard also recalled how William assisted him as he created Kate’s signature voluminous, bouncy blowout for the evening do.

Speaking to the American publication about how down to earth the royal couple are behind the scenes, he recalled: ‘The first time I went around to their house, it was actually William that made me a cup of tea! That was very nice.’

Explaining Kate’s ‘wicked sense of humour’, he added: ‘It’s quite dry, there’s no airs and graces – you can have a good joke with her.’

The duchess wore her hair in a demi-chignon with soft and romantic loose curls when walking down the aisle at Westminster Abbey.

But for the royal couple’s evening event, Richard swapped her up do for her signature look of bouncy loose locks.

The hairstylist even had some help from the groom, with William assisting Richard as he showed Kate the finished look at Clarence House.

‘I wanted to show Kate the back of her hair and I was struggling to walk with this 500-year-old mirror, and he just said, “Let me give you a hand,” and I said, “No, no, honestly,” but he took one end and I’ve got the other and we’re shuffling along with this mirror – he’s great, he really is,’ Ward recalled.

Yesterday, the duke and duchess shared a photo from their wedding as they celebrated their ninth anniversary today.
