A thrifty mother-of-two has gone viral with the clever window seat she built at home  – costing her just £30. 

Courtney Gallears, 27, a hairdresser from Tamworth, Staffordshire, was keen to make the most of the alcove by the sunny window in her sitting room.

Ensuring she was able to do so on a budget, the clever mum came up with the idea to use wood from an old pallet, a cot mattress costing £20 and paint for £9.

She shared the results to Facebook group DIY On A Budget.

Courtney revealed that she cut the wood into small strips, before securing them in front of the wall and creating a platform ridge around the edge of the wall

Using old 15 metre ply wood, she then made a base which slides off to reveal storage, which she topped off with the cot mattress, a spread and cushions.

Sharing the before and after pictures, Courtney wrote: ‘The window seat is complete! This cost me £30 for a cot mattress and the paint!’.
