Daniel said of his character: ‘Yeah he’s the first prototype of his kind and he’s 90% human and 10% AI but all the wirings gone a bit wrong.

‘It just ensues a comedy of errors between the two of them. It’s taken a year for him to come back, and in the year Stephen’s character has fallen in love with my wife.

‘Those natural police instincts have completely vanished now he’s kicking down the wrong doors and arresting the wrong people, and if this goes the wrong the powers that be will switch him off.’

Stephen added: ‘Similar to you two, [Holly and Phil], Each double act’s completely different, each brings their own thing to the table it’s very much Danny is a cross between Some Mother’s Do ‘Av ‘Em and the Six Million Dollar man, and I’m the straight guy whose angry all the time.’

Stephen said it was his wife Hannah, who persuaded him to take on the role.

‘Yeah she reads all my scripts, ‘ he said. ‘But it was Danny who was approached to do it and Danny threw my name in the hat and we worked together years ago.

But he admitted the hardest thing was getting through the lines together because the script was so funny.

Stephen said to Phil and Holly: ‘I don’t now how yous two managed, when the camera was on the two of us it was OK.

‘When it was on him after a few weeks I had sores on the inside of my mouth, I was biting my lip because I couldn’t stop laughing!’
