Andy Lee: My TV blunder so bad it was wiped from Channel Seven’s archives

‘It was terrible’: Comedian Andy Lee reflects on his first big career blunder – which was so bad that Channel Seven deleted the master tapes

Comedians Andy Lee and Hamish Blake are two of the country’s most popular comedians and TV presenters.

But on Tuesday, Andy revealed their careers almost never took off after their first TV program was a major flop.

Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, the 38-year-old funnyman reflected on his first project with Channel Seven.

‘Hamish and I had a failed show on Channel Seven called Hamish and Andy. It was a terrible show that lasted six episodes back in 2004,’ he said.

Andy explained that he called the network five years after the show was cancelled to track down the master tapes, because he’d never actually watched it.

‘I was like, “Look, just wondering, it’s our first ever show, Chris Lilley was on it doing Mr G, so there was some interesting parts to it,”‘ he said.

Oh, dear! Hamish and Andy's first TV show on Seven, which lasted just six episodes in 2004, was so dreadful the network taped over it during the Commonwealth Games

He was then told the tapes no longer existed, because the network had taped over his failed show during the Commonwealth Games.

Andy added: ‘They said, “I don’t think we have the tapes anymore, with them having taped the Commonwealth Games over it.’

To this day, Andy insists he has never seen his disastrous first foray into TV.
