She’s the fan favourite tipped to take out MasterChef: Back to Win. 

But Poh Ling Yeow, 47, failed to wow viewers on Sunday night’s episode with her take on the classic vanilla slice, with many quick to vent on Twitter that her culinary creation seemed a bit ‘basic’. 

‘Sorry Poh, I adore you but it’s just a vanilla slice,’ said one viewer.

While another took a swing at the tasty treat found in bakeries across Australia.  

‘Am I the only one who thinks Poh’s dish looked dry?’ said another from the comfort of their living room. 

Before a third went straight for the jugular: ‘I hate to say it but Poh’s vanilla slice looks a bit… basic.’

Meanwhile, other viewers didn’t appreciate the drama that went along with watching Poh create her dish – which seems to be part and parcel of most episodes of the Channel Ten ratings success so far. 

‘Feel like we are always in a waiting game every episode together with Poh while we wait for her food to be ready,’ said one MasterChef viewer. 

‘It feels like every episode has to have a Poh, ”OMG will she finish?”, manufactured drama’, commented another.

It’s not the first time the fan favourite has left viewers on the edge of their seat. 

Last week, Poh made a lychee strawberry chiffon cake that usually takes several hours, in just 90 minutes. 

All three judges were impressed by Poh’s technical abilities. Melissa Leong described the sweet treat as ‘light and airy’, while Andy Allen praised Poh on making a ‘technically perfect’ cake.
