The side of MasterChef that producers DON’T want you to see: Private dinner parties, the meals that never made it on TV and a gruelling leaked schedule
The MasterChef kitchen isn’t the only place where the contestants get competitive.
Daily Mail Australia can reveal that the Back to Win stars spent their downtime away from the cameras putting their skills to the test at private dinner parties.
During filming earlier this year, the chefs gave fans a rare glimpse into what happens behind the scenes in now-expired Instagram Story posts.

When they weren’t cooking for the judges, the likes of Poh Ling Yeow, Brendan Pang and Reece Hignell took turns making meals and desserts for each other.
The cast would host private dinner parties in their apartment hotels in Melbourne, where they were put up by producers throughout filming.
The meals appeared just as tasty as the ones on the show, but won’t be shown on TV.
Secret challenges? When they weren’t cooking for the judges, the stars took turns making meals for each other inside their rented apartments in Melbourne. Pictured L-R: Jess Liemantara, Sarah Tiong, Rose Adam, Poh Ling Yeow and Sarah Clare
Feast! Sarah and the rest of the cast would feast on the leftover food from the MasterChef kitchen in the apartments they stayed during filming
Whereas in previous years the cast would live together in a ‘MasterChef mansion’, this time around they had their own serviced apartments.
The show is understood to be in the last stages of production in Melbourne, with just a few finalists remaining.
At the start of April, contestant Rose Adam revealed what happens to the food made during challenges.
She shared a video of Poh and Sarah Tiong having a feast in her room, writing: ‘What happens after we get back from the kitchen? Fridge clean out!’
Leftover ingredients and supplies are also donated to charity.
Top marks? Reece Hignell practised his skills away from the MasterChef kitchen by cooking this meal for Brendan Pang in his apartment last month
Throwback! At the start of filming earlier this year, before coronavirus was declared a pandemic, the cast would head to bars together. Pictured: Courtney Roulston
At the start of filming – before coronavirus was declared a pandemic – the cast would head to bars together without the producers.
Lynton Tapp previously shared a picture of Courtney Roulston playing pool, proving how the cast are just as friendly with each other when they aren’t being filmed.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the contestants eventually were told they had to stay in Melbourne on the weekends and couldn’t go out partying.
Instead, they socialised in each other’s rooms.
Jess Liemantara, Reece and Brendan passed one quiet evening by wearing face masks and watching TV, for example.
The not so glamorous side of reality TV! Last week, Courtney Roulston shared a picture of her extensive press schedule with back-to-back radio interviews after she was eliminated
Once a contestant is eliminated and they’re back home, the reality isn’t glamorous.
Last week, Courtney shared a picture of her very busy press schedule for the day, including back-to-back radio interviews across the country.
Most of the interviews were just seconds apart, with no time for breaks.
She completed the press day from her apartment in Coogee while self-isolating. In previous seasons, she would have been in a studio with a publicist.
