Man, 20, is killed and boy, 16, is fighting for life after separate knife attacks two hours apart in the West Midlands

  • Two teenagers stabbed in broad daylight near Marston Green Park, Solihull  
  • One boy, 16, is said to be in a critical condition and another victim, 19, is ‘stable’ 
  • Another teenager, 14, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder nearby 

A 20-year-old man was killed and a teenager was left fighting for his life after two separate knife attacks in the West Midlands.    

Police arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder after two teenagers were stabbed in broad daylight on Chapelhouse Road in Solihull at around 2.40pm today.  

Two hours later, a man was found with serious injuries following a second attack at the West Cross Shopping Centre in Smethwick.

He had suffered knife injuries and the air ambulance was called − but unfortunately the victim was pronounced dead before he could be taken on board.

Police urged those sharing video footage of the fatal attack to instead get in touch with police as it could be ‘extremely distressing for family and friends.’ 

Detective Inspector Laura Harrison of Force CID, said: ‘Our thoughts go out to the family of the young man who has lost his life and we’re working to establish the circumstances around his death.

‘I am aware of mobile footage circulating on social media and would urge people to please not share this and instead to get in touch with my team. This can be extremely distressing for family and friends. 

‘However if you do have any information, mobile phone footage or dash-cam footage, we’d urge you to get in touch with us as soon as possible as this could assist us as our investigations continue.’ 

In the earlier stabbing near Marston Green Park, a 16-year-old boy was rushed to hospital and was tonight said to be in a critical condition.

Another teenager, 19, was also taken to hospital but has been described as stable. 

Witnesses reported seeing an air ambulance land in a play area on Moorend Avenue before police cordoned off a section of the nearby park.  

The 14-year-old suspect remains in police custody this evening as witnesses were urged to contact West Midlands Police with any information.     

It comes amid reports another man was stabbed in the chest on a street in Smethwick, West Midlands later this afternoon.        

The force said in a statement: ‘We were called to reports that two people had been stabbed on Chapelhouse Road, Solihull at about 2.40pm today. 

‘Two people have been taken to hospital.

‘A 16-year-old boy remains in a critical condition while a 19-year-old man is described as stable.

‘A 14-year-old boy, was arrested nearby on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into police custody for questioning.’
