Spider-Man and Doctor Strange sequels postponed as Thor: Love & Thunder leaps back a week amid coronavirus date changes

As movie releases continue to shift around amid the coronavirus pandemic, a slate of new changes have been announced.

The next Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland was slated to come out on July 16, 2021 but has been bumped a few months to November 5, Deadline reports.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, which was meant to come out November 5, 2021, has been moved out of Spider-Man’s new slot to March 25, 2022.

Disney owns the Doctor Strange property and Sony owns the Spider-Man property, but Sony and Disney were jointly putting up the money for the Tom Holland films.

The new date changes appear to be a show of Disney and Sony collaborating to accommodate one another amid the pandemic.

Sony’s animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is also getting a sequel which has now been delayed from April 8, 2022 to October 7, 2022.

Meanwhile on the Disney Marvel front Thor: Love & Thunder has been moved earlier a week from February 18 next year to February 11.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness was originally scheduled for release next May 7 but was moved first to November 2021, then March 2022 over COVID-19.

At the beginning of the month a slate of Marvel projects got new release dates brought about by the ongoing pandemic.

These included the Black Widow standalone film staring Scarlett Johanssen as well as sequels to Black Panther and Captain Marvel.

The Eternals, whose cast includes Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek, has been moved to next February 12 from its original release date of November 6, 2020.

Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings has also been moved up to May 7, 2021 from the previously planned February 12, 2021, Chinese New Year.
