Jackpotjoy and Virgin Games owner ends television and radio advertising during the lockdown

The owner of Jackpotjoy and Virgin Games has become the first gambling firm to end television and radio advertising during the lockdown.

Gamesys were praised for acknowledging that children and vulnerable customers who are bored at home are being placed at risk by the lockdown.

Betting companies have been urged to go further to protect players by senior doctors and MPs, including sports minister Nigel Huddleston, who this week wrote to all the major gambling bosses.

The ban will apply to TV, radio and marketing sent through the post, as well as some adverts online.

The company has suspended its sponsorship of ITV’s Loose Women, instead offering domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid the chance to advertise.

Gamesys said its board ‘believes that it is prudent to suspend untargeted customer marketing until current social restrictions are eased’.
