Victoria started out with a white tiled kitchen containing a maroon wall, beech cabinets and a grey floor and worktop.

She decided to swap the handles for gold versions at £1.69 each, before painting the cupboard doors and drawers, along with the wall, white, with a £18 tin of Ronseal paint.

The thrifty mum then laid new white tiles with trendy black grout costing £18 for three packs, and injected some personality with patterned floor tiles, also from Homebase, costing £240 for eight packs – her biggest investment.

She then cut a new sleek black worktop using MDF she cut to size from B&Q.
