James Jordan reveals he and wife Ola had to rush baby daughter Ella to hospital

James Jordan and his wife Ola were forced to rush their daughter Ella to hospital after they noticed she was struggling to breath.

The former Strictly Come Dancing stars, who welcomed the tot in February, went to A&E on Tuesday after noticing Ella was not well.

Writing in their Hello! magazine column, James, 42, said: ‘She hasn’t slept for the last couple of days. She’s been really unsettled, really miserable. Moving a lot, kicking her legs and flailing her arms and struggling to clear her mouth.

Scare: James Jordan, 42, and his wife Ola, 37, were forced to rush their daughter Ella to hospital after they noticed she was struggling to breath

‘She had a lot of saliva in her mouth and it was almost like she couldn’t swallow properly. It was like she was choking on her own saliva.’

The couple were initially reluctant to contact the NHS due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic so they called Ola’s sister, a pharmacist, as well as a close family friend who also has small children.

Both advised the pair to call the NHS helpline and soon enough an ambulance was called to their house.

James said: ‘We called 111 and told them what was going on and they sent an ambulance out. Then the paramedics said, “Right, we’ll take her in and get someone to have a look at her.” They took her into hospital and a paediatrician saw her very quickly.’

Ella, who is now seven weeks old, was given blood tests and her heart and breathing were checked with James and Ola, 37, told she had a bad case of reflux.

The couple were sent home with their daughter and were given anti-reflux medication, saying it was ‘quite terrifying’ seeing their daughter appearing to struggle to breath.

Ola, who said being in the hospital was ‘quite scary’ rode in the ambulance with Ella while James drove behind in the car.

The pair were careful to avoid catching COVID-19, immediately washing all their clothes and putting alcohol on their hands.

It comes after Ola used her daily exercise allowance to take newborn daughter Ella around their neighbourhood.

The star shared a snap of herself gearing up to take Ella out, as she revealed she had been following government guidelines and staying home as much as possible.

The dancer looked radiant in the snap, keeping her outfit casual in black jogging bottoms and an oversized denim jacket.

She penned: ‘Haven’t been out much at all in the last 7 weeks. So nice to take Ella out for a walk today’.

Earlier, the couple shared pictures as they enjoyed family time while in lockdown.

James was clearly relishing his new father role as he was snapped winding his ‘munchkin’ Ella with a muslin cloth seen over his shoulder.

The star donned a pale blue shirt for the snap, while little Ella looked adorable in her pink baby grow.

The sweet post garnered several comments from fans complementing the picture, with several noting Ella looks just like mum Ola.

James and wife Ola announced the happy news of Ella’s arrival on Instagram.

The new mother shared a sweet snap holding her little one’s hand, and gushed in the caption: ‘She’s here and she is perfect.’

James also took to Instagram to share a snap of their baby girl, as he held onto her feet and said: ‘I’m the happiest man in the world.’

The couple, who have been together for 20 years, announced they were expecting their first child in September 2019 after a painful three-year battle with infertility.

Just days ago Ola proved things are going swimmingly as an extended family as she shared a touching snap of her husband and their daughter to mark his 42nd birthday.

She added a caption on the sweet snap reading: ‘Life is so precious and should be treasured. I treasure every moment with you. Happy Birthday baby. Thank you for all that you do for us. Baby Ella adores you so much’.

The touching post comes after James revealed his father had contracted coronavirus whilst in hospital recovering from a second stroke.

The Dancing On Ice winner’s dad Alan was admitted to hospital last month after suffering a stroke, mere weeks after James welcomed his first child with wife Ola.

Whilst Alan was able to leave hospital for a brief period, he was readmitted this month with an infection in his arm, and has now tested positive for COVID-19.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, James penned: ‘Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse! After being in hospital for nearly 2 weeks after his stroke my dad has now tested positive to coronavirus.

He added: ‘My dad has always been my hero. When I spoke to him he was more worried about my mum, sister & family. He kept saying “ Don’t worry about me, I’ve got this”.

‘The sad thing is today he was supposed to be transferred to another hospital where he would have a TV. He was so excited’.
