Post Office launches cash delivery service for the vulnerable

Post Office launches cash delivery service to ensure vulnerable can access pensions and benefits

A new cash delivery service has been launched by the Post Office and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to ensure the most at-risk households can access pensions and benefits.

The DWP is contacting the 27,000 most vulnerable Post Office Card Account customers identified using its own data combined with the NHS list of individuals advised to ‘shield’ due to health conditions.

Those who require a delivery are then sent cash they need — up to £2,500 — using Royal Mail Special Delivery to arrive by 9pm the following day.

The service is free with the Post Office repurposing part of its foreign exchange cash delivery business.

Customers will only be offered cash deliveries if they do not have any other options to access their money.

This could include transferring money to another bank account they can make payments from, or nominating a family member to withdraw cash on their behalf.

Last week Money Mail revealed the measures the banking industry was taking to ensure vulnerable customers had access to cash.

Some banks, including Barclays, Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest, are also offering cash deliveries.
