Val Kilmer, 60, ‘couldn’t wait to kiss’ Angelina Jolie, 44, and ‘buy her a jet

Val Kilmer admits in his new book I’m Your Huckleberry that he had a crush on Angelina Jolie before they co-starred in the 2004 epic Alexander.

And when they were on set together he ‘couldn’t wait to kiss her.’ The Top Gun went on to say that he also wanted to ‘buy her a Gulfstream jet and have V+J painted in rainbow glory on the trail.’

But after the movie stars made their film, she went on to fall for her next costar, Brad Pitt, on the set of the 2005 action adventure Mrs And Mrs Smith.

According to a excerpt given to UsWeekly, Kilmer met Jolie on a New York street before they were both cast in Oliver Stone’s epic movie Alexander about Alexander The Great, a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon and a member of the Argead dynasty who was born in 356BC.

Val played King Philip II with Angelina as Queen Olympia.

‘We developed a friendship,’ he wrote in his book. 

‘I was around when Angie’s mom [Marcheline Bertrand] was losing her battle with cancer. They were living in her mom’s favorite hotel. Or maybe it was Angie’s. I happened to be staying there myself. It was meaningful and mortal and effortless and exquisite.’

He also said he told Stone he would only do the film Alexander ‘if the king and queen could have flashbacks to falling hard for each other and storming the castle with passion, before turning against each other.’

Val said he was ‘was only half kidding’ but the Oliver ‘didn’t pick up on the humor.’

Jolie was at her most beautiful at the time and also single – she had just split from Billy Bob Thornton.

‘I couldn’t wait to kiss Angie, buy her [a] Gulfstream jet and have V+J painted in rainbow glory on the trail,’ he wrote.

‘She had recently adopted her first child, Maddox, and the paparazzi were obsessed with this postmodern Madonna, the perfect picture of unapproachable stardom and impossibly chic maternal instinct.’

And he said she was intense. 

‘When people ask me what Angelina is like, I always say she’s like other women and other superstars, but just more,’ Kilmer wrote.

‘More gorgeous,’ he continued. ‘More wise. More tragic. More magic. More grounded. Is it worth it? Worth knowing people who require weeks of effort to understand even a little? Yes.’

But when filming was over, their relationship faded.

And the A list Oscar winner fell into the arms of Pitt when they made Mr And Mrs Smith together.  

They started dating, becoming Brangelina, and together raised all six of their kids together – Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 13, and twins Knox and Vivienne 11 – until they called it quits in 2016.   

Next came what appears to be the love of his life, Daryl Hannah, whom he calls ‘the 6′ tall Amazonian tower of delicate power’.

Kilmer’s heart still aches for Daryl and he writes ‘I knew I would love her with my whole heart forever and that love has lost none of its strength’.

Now without the company of a sweetheart and having loved so deeply, Kilmer feels he has nothing left to give in a romantic relationship and feels lonely part of every day.

Kilmer started creating art when he was in the hospital and it morphed into something people wanted to collect.

He set up an art factory in Brentwood and with a new lease on life, he feels he is no longer a slave to love and a hopeless romantic.

He is focused on friends, his art, his foundation and his spiritual growth.

The couple began dating in 2001 after working on the movie In God We Trust, but the relationship still clearly stands out to Kilmer.   

He even playfully called out her husband Neil Young, who she wed in 2018 after four years of dating.  

‘Lord knows I’ve suffered heartache. But Daryl was by far the most painful of all. (Neil Young, I always loved you, but I’m afraid I hate you now.),’ he wrote. 

Kilmer still has fond memories of his time with Hannah in New Mexico.  

The relationship started years after Kilmer ended his marriage of eight years to actress Joanne Whalley, who he shares daughter Mercedes, 28, and son Jack, 24, with.

Following his divorce, Kilmer dated Cindy Crawford, who he says helped him become happy again.  

Kilmer also reflected on his special relationship with singer Cher, who helped him get through his battle with cancer. 

The pair dated in the 1980s, and Cher invited him to move in with her during his recent illness.

Fortunately, Kilmer is now cancer free after undergoing a tracheotomy, chemotherapy and radiation. 

Kilmer has been keeping busy as of late.

In addition to his memoir, which will be released April 21, 2020, he also will be reprising his role of LT Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky in Top Gun: Maverick, set to hit big screens this summer.
