From musicals to dance classes… 30 FREE ways you can enjoy lockdown 

If you are running out of ideas on how to keep you and your children entertained during the coronavirus lockdown, do not fear.

From audio books and cooking lessons to musicals and workout videos, there’s plenty of free fun to be had online.

Here is Money Mail’s round-up of our favourite finds…

You can even learn to dance on YouTube. Passion4dancing teaches styles such as salsa, rumba and tango. It helps if your partner lives in the same house, of course.

FIT AND FUN

Joe Wicks, aka ‘The Body Coach’, has recently shot to fame with his popular 30-minute PE lessons for kids at 9am on weekdays. Visit youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1/videos to get started.

Or sign up to the Fitness Blender which boasts 600 free workout videos, including Pilates and kickboxing.

Davina McCall is also offering 30 days of free High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), cardio and boxing classes online at ownyourgoalsdavina.com, which usually cost £9.99 per month.

Or try the NHS Couch To 5k smartphone app, which aims to get you running 5km without stopping by week nine.

CROWDPLEASERS

Many organisations are now putting live performances online.

The National Theatre announced it would be streaming plays on YouTube, starting with One Man, Two Guvnors with James Corden. 

A new play will be available every Thursday at 7pm for seven days.

Shakespeare’s Globe is also sharing free plays online — including 37 short films and six filmed performances. The Royal Opera House is streaming performances every Friday on Facebook and YouTube.

GET CREATIVE

Asian restaurant Wagamama is uploading free virtual cooking lessons called Wok From Home from today on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.

Bakery Bread Ahead offers baking tutorials on its Instagram page every day at 2pm. 

Every Friday at 5pm, Rude Health is teaching viewers how to make health foods, including sauerkraut and oat milk, on its Facebook page.

If cooking isn’t your bag, why not teach yourself to play a musical instrument? Fender.com is offering three months of free lessons, including guitar, ukulele and bass.

PUB QUIZ WHIZZ

KEEPING CALM

The smartphone app Calm is now offering exercises, sleep stories and music to help you relax. Visit calm.com/blog/take-a-deep-breath.

Headspace has also launched free meditation, sleep and movement exercises online or via its smartphone app.

KIDS… listen up

Audible has made more than 200 audiobooks free for ‘as long as schools are closed’. The range includes options for younger children as well as teenagers.

HELP FOR HEROES

Many companies are now giving free or discounted services to NHS workers as a way of thanking staff for continuing care.

Uber Eats is offering those with an NHS ID five free meals a week worth £10 each, and Uber offers free car rides to and from work.

Delivery service Just Eat is offering 25 per cent off meals with daily codes until April 13.

NHS staff can also get a 50 per cent discount on Firezza, Leon, Yo! Sushi and Las Iguanas deliveries or collections.

WHSmith and Superdrug are also giving NHS workers a 20 per cent discount on purchases.

Drivers can get a free ten point car check from Halfords, including top-ups of tyre inflation, screen wash and checks on oil levels.
