Taxman gets a Christmas bonus as 3,000 file their tax returns on Christmas Day
More than 3,000 people filed their tax returns on Christmas Day, figures from HM Revenue and Customs have revealed.
The peak period was between noon and 1pm, when 245 returns were received online. Boxing Day saw 9,254 submitted, while 22,035 had been sent in on Christmas Eve.
The Christmas Day total is up compared with last year, when 2,616 tax returns were filed.

More than 11 million people are expected to complete a 2018/19 self-assessment tax return by the deadline of January 31.
Angela MacDonald, HMRC’s director general for customer services, said: ‘Our online service is available at any time you wish.’
