How to get Disney Plus streaming service in UK for the lowest price

Disney’s hotly anticipated new streaming service will be free for new and upgrading O2 customers for six months – welcome news for those who are currently, or soon to be heading into, self-isolation.

Existing O2 customers will also be able to enjoy Disney+, which offers original shows such as The Mandalorian, and despite paying the full price of £5.99 a month, they will subsequently receive £2 off their monthly bill.

With the coronavirus spreading across the globe at an unprecedented rate, millions of Britons face the prospect of being forced to stay inside.

With over 500 films, more than 350 series and a slate of 26 exclusive original shows, Disney+ may be a good start for customers looking to keep themselves entertained over the coming weeks – and more importantly, the kids.

Bonus: Disney+ is a new streaming service that new O2 customers will be able to get for free

It includes Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, with over 600 episodes of ‘The Simpsons,’ also available on demand in one place for the first time.

The service is due to launch on March 24, a timely arrival considering thousands of people up and down the country will be staying at home.

But what other streaming services are on offer – and which are promising the best deal? To help those in self-isolation keep entertained, This is Money has taken a look at the best deals on the market.

Disney+

Disney+ is a great choice for families, especially for parents who are looking to entertain their little ones, especially those who are stuck in quarantine.

Not only is O2 giving its customers a great deal with a free six months of the service but Quidco, one of the most popular cashback services, is offering the streaming channel for just £2.19 a month – a total of just £26.37 a year.

Quidco is offering the introductory pre-order offer until 23 March, the day before the streaming service launches.

The Disney+ website is also offering a whole year of the service for £49.99 for a year instead of £59.99 if you sign up before 24 March – or £4.17 a month.

Britbox

ITV and BBC’s joint offering is one of the newest services on the market with shows including the back catalogues of favourites Gavin and Stacey, Broadchurch and Vera.

Those with families can also binge watch Doctor Who, Mr Bean and other shows from children’s channel CiTV.

New customers can get 30 days free before it goes up to £5.99 a month after.

As with most other streaming services, customers can cancel their subscription whenever, there is no long term contract.

Sky

Sky TV has recently announced a new deal with Netflix where customers can get the two services for £25 a month for 18 months – a saving of £6 a month. However, there is a £20 set up fee.

Channels include Sky Atlantic, E!, Sky Witness and MTV as well as all of the TV shows and films that Netflix has to offer.

Fortunately, those who are already signed up to Netflix won’t have to cancel and rejoin as their account will be ‘seamlessly’ transitioned to Sky.

For those who want to add Sky Cinema, the price goes up to £36 a month for 18 months, again with a £20 set up fee.

Netflix

Netflix is the original streaming service that kicked off the popularity of watching TV and films on the go, with no adverts.

It also proved that streaming services could successfully create their own shows and films with a host of original productions now available including Narcos, Stranger Things and the Crown.

New customers now can choose from a range of different plan options, getting 30 days free initially. The basic plan comes in at £5.99 and only allows the user to watch content on one screen.

Meanwhile, the standard plan costs £8.99 a month and allows users to watch on two different screens at the same time whilst the premium plan, costing £11.99 a month, means users can watch on four different screens at the same time.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon customers can get a 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, which includes the Prime Video services, featuring hundreds of films and TV programmes, with many original productions.

After the free trial is complete, the price goes up to £5.99, or £7.99 if users want free next day delivery on thousands of items and access to the whole Prime catalogue.

Alternatively, customers can pay for a year upfront for £79 – equivalent to £6.58 per month.

Students can receive six months free of Prime, with the subscription costing £3.99 a month afterwards.

Now TV

One of the main benefits of Now TV is that it allows users to watch Sky shows, such as Game of Thrones, without having to pay for a yearly Sky subscription.

The service offers different passes, including entertainment, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, Kids and hayu, a reality TV streaming channel that brings a number of US shows to UK audiences a day after it has been aired.

Quit after your 30 day trial to save money

If you’re looking to spend as little as possible on your entertainment, you can sign up to one 30 day trial, for example, Netflix, after which you can cancel and then join another one, for example, Amazon Prime Video.

If you do this over the course of a couple of months, you should be able to see out your isolation entertained and with a fuller wallet.

Whilst the monthly rolling contracts are all different prices, depending on what sort of plan you are looking for, prices start from £3.99.

Users can get seven days free of each pass, with the passes going back up to full price after the week period ends.

Currently, the entertainment package costs £8.99 a month, Sky Cinema is £11.99 a month whilst the Kids Pass and Hayu are both £3.99 a month.

Customers can sign up for longer and in return will receive a better deal.

For example, an entertainment pass costs £5.49 a month for four months, rather than £8.99 a month.

Customers can also buy six months worth of Sky Cinema and an entertainment pass for just £49.99 – compared to the usual cost of £125.88 – a saving of 60 per cent.

BT

BT recently announced that it will be providing more flexible subscription packages for its TV customers.

Users can now switch from a sport package – now relatively useless, with next to no sport on – to an entertainment package where viewers can tune into the latest miniseries on Sky Atlantic.

As part of the changes, BT has integrated Now TV into its packages for the first time and gives customers access to streaming services Netflix and Amazon Prime.

It said that the new flexible packages will allow users to upgrade, downgrade or bolt-on additional channels month-to-month as their lifestyle and viewing habits change.

Prices start from £10 a month with the entertainment package and rises to £60 for the all-inclusive VIP offering.
