Japan tightens border after Carlos Ghosn fled the country in music case

Japan tightens border controls after former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn escaped the country while on bail

Japan said yesterday said it would tighten immigration measures after former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn fled to Lebanon while on bail.

It was the country’s first official response to an astonishing escape from house arrest that has transformed the executive into an international fugitive.

Carlos Ghosn had been charged with crimes including understating his income before fleeing

Ghosn, who had been charged with financial crimes including aggravated breach of trust and understating his income, was said to have slipped past surveillance by hiding in a musical instrument case, before taking a private plane to Lebanon.

Justice minister Masako Mori said Ghosn’s ‘apparently illegal’ departure was regrettable and promised a thorough investigation.
