Rio Tinto chief executive Jean-Sebastien Jacques netted a 27 per cent pay rise in 2019.
The French businessman earned £5.8million last year, the miner’s annual report says.
Jacques, at the helm since 2016, was paid a £1.48million salary and pocketed £2.6million from a share plan.
He got a £1.7million bonus triggered by profits rising to their highest level in eight years.
He was also rewarded for no deaths at its sites, cutting greenhouse emissions and spending more time communicating with staff.
