More Virgin Galactic space tickets go on sale ahead of first commercial flight later this year

Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic is offering more space-flight tickets to satisfy rich thrill-seekers.

Tickets for the first flights, which will last 90 minutes and give passengers a few minutes of weightlessness, were initially £193,000 each.

It had 7,957 registrations of interest as of Sunday, on top of around 600 people who have already paid in full, said to include Justin Bieber and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Buyers must put down a £770 deposit for the new tickets.

George Whitesides, the chief executive, said the firm’s target market was 1.8m people who have fortunes of £7.7million ($10million) or more.

The company said it was still preparing for its first commercial flight later this year, with Branson on board.

Virgin Galactic is competing with several rivals to take people into orbit.

In the final three months of 2019 its losses widened from £35.6million to £56.4million.

It lost £106.8million in 2019, and is valued at £5.2billion.
