Virus fears: The Mobile World Conference event in Barcelona is cancelled

The annual showcase for the mobile phone industry was cancelled last night due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Vodafone, Nokia, Sony and Ericsson had already pulled out of the four-day event in Barcelona, which was due to start on February 24, and which draws 100,000 participants. 

John Hoffman, chief executive of organiser GSMA said: ‘Global concern regarding the outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances make it impossible to hold it.’
